Luca Quinn - 2 Years Old

Today is Luca’s 2nd birthday! It has been so fun to look back over this past year with Luca. When they are this little, so much changes in a short amount of time! Right when Luca turned 1, he learned how to crawl. Mid-July he started walking! It was so fun to see him take some of his first steps in Central Park! That was his first trip back to New York since we moved. With Covid being so rampant when he was born, last summer was actually the first time he rode the bus!

For the most part, he is a Cali boy through and through. He has grown up at the beach, and he loves all things sand and water. He loves to be outside and play. He even started trying out Jackson’s scooter long before his 2nd birthday! As is tradition in New York, Luca got his own scooter for his birthday this year :)

This year we also took trips to Oklahoma and Hawaii. Luca’s definitely at a tough age to travel with, but overall he did really great!

Luca is still a bottomless pit. He eats constantly, eating just as much if not more than his siblings. We had to move Jackson’s chair away from him, because Luca kept reaching over and taking all of Jack’s food off his plate! Fynn graciously sits in the “splash zone” right across from Luca. He randomly throws fistfuls of food across the table no matter how much we try to discourage it! About the only thing Luca doesn’t like to eat is hamburgers, but he loves pasta unlike all of his siblings.

We fondly call Luca our Beefy Baby. He is so stout. On our flight home from Hawaii, a flight attendant offered to carry Luca off for me, as Ron and I’s hands were full. She quickly went to scoop him up, and stumbled a bit while grunting out a , “ woahhh, you are heavier than you look!” Solid is a word that could be used to describe him haha. He’s still on the shorter side, but weight-wise, he has caught up to Jackson! They share some clothes at this point!

Luca is still receiving therapy. It has been a very sporadic year of therapists for him (oh how I miss NY!). We’ve rotated through quite a few, so unfortunately he hasn’t had consistent therapy. But overall, he is still doing well and continuing to learn and develop.

Luca doesn’t have many words, but here are a few of our favorites:

“Wooooahhhhh Papa” (in a godfather voice)
”Eat Papa” (said in that same raspy voice haha)
”Dinglebom” (we have no idea what this one means, but he says it a lot, and we all laugh every time!)

Because Luca doesn’t have a lot of words, he spends a lot of him time being very frustrated. It is a tough season for sure. He knows what he wants to communicate to us, and he simply can’t. That combined with Luca’s fiery personality, we hear lots of crying screaming from him all day long. I hope that this phase will get better as he learns to speak, because right now it is so tough!

Luca can be pretty sour with most of us, but he for sure has a soft spot for Papi. He loves to snuggle him, sneak into his lap during meetings, and read books with him. For the most part, he likes to be independent, but he will tolerate Aly helping him do things when he needs it.

Dear Luca,

I am so grateful to have another year with you in our family! It feels like yesterday, we were walking a mile to the hospital to have you in the peak of Covid. It’s still crazy for me to think that your entire life has been a covid-life. You pretend play with masks, know how to read people’s facial expressions through their eyes, and you only recently started leaving our care (at church).
While it has been a tough few months with you, our love for you never wanes. You are such a light and joy to our family. I can’t wait to see what this year holds for you, and I pray that God would allow us many many more years to watch you grow and flourish.

Love Forever,
Mami
