Luca Quinn- Week 37
Luca is 37 weeks old, and a blog post is way overdue for him!! We’ve come to the end of Birthday Palooza (5 of the 7 of our birthdays are in a 2.5 month span!!), so now I have a little more time sit down and write!
I feel Luca getting so big these days. I’m desperately trying to hold onto my baby, but he seems insistent upon growing up! He got his first haircut and immediately grew up!! A couple of weeks ago, we dropped the dreamfeed and stopped bringing Luca into our room at night! So now he sleeps all night in the playroom. Jackson’s been out of the crib for awhile, so we moved the crib into the playroom for Luca to use without having to share a room with the rest of them just yet!
A few weeks ago Luca got sick for the first time in his life (not Covid thankfully). It’s always so hard seeing your baby sick! Just a few days before he got sick, Luca had actually started rolling over by himself for the first time! We were so thrilled, but then when Luca got sick, he naturally wanted to be held constantly and so he stopped practicing rolling for several days. Since then, he has not rolled again without assistance. I’m bummed for the setback, but Luca is still working hard, and I’m sure he’ll get back to it soon enough.
Luca has made huge progress with sitting though! He has grown to really love it, and it is his preferred way to play now. He used to like being on his tummy, but not anymore. Luca still needs some support when sitting, as he often extends straight and shoots backwards! He also rocks back and forth a lot, which can knock him off balance. But we’re getting there!
And one last new development, this week Luca started swiveling on the ground on his tummy! He has found this particularly useful when trying to get to his Mama ;)
Luca’s therapies are going well. He’s working on rolling over, bearing weight on his hands, playing with toys (tapping together or shaking) rather than mouthing them, working on his head lag when sitting up, and opening his left fist. For the most part, Luca keeps his left hand fisted and doesn’t naturally want to open it up.
Luca is doing well with solid foods. He eats a solid 3 meals a day and is eating both purees and table food. He hasn’t encountered any food yet that he doesn’t like! We’re hopeful that it’ll help his weight gain next doctor visit. He is also still breastfeeding 4x a day, but still spits up so much.
It’s been a busy month or so, filled with lots of birthdays and holidays! Luca is always happy to be a part of whatever is going on. He’s a very happy baby, as long as someone is holding him or very nearby. We love our Luca Puka, Puka Shell, Pookie Pie!
