Anders Martí - 6 Weeks Old

Our sweet little Anders is 6 weeks old today, and has also been home for exactly a month! His original due date was this past weekend, and while we never intended to make it that far, Anders came even earlier than we expected. But I am so happy to report that he is really thriving and doing so well. We have a lot of other things weighing on us right now, so it is such a relief to not be worrying about Anders too.

Today, Anders had a checkup. He is exactly 7 lbs and 19.25 inches long, 30% for all measurements! Other than Luca, all of our babies have strugged to gain weight in the beginning, so I am thrilled that Anders is crushing the preemie charts! Yay!

With all of this growth, Anders has outgrown his preemie diapers and onesies and is wearing newborn clothes now!

We have spent the last month that Anders has been home really working to move off the pumping/bottle feeding situation and to just breastfeeding. It is so much work to go through that transition, but we perservered and now at 6 weeks, he’s exclusively breastfeeding during the daytime and just taking bottles during the night! I feel so accomplished haha. My goal was to get him to that point before I go back to work next week!

He does great at night. Until he turned a month old, I was setting an alarm to feed him every 3 hours in the night. I just knew that as soon as I stopped setting the alarms, he would start waking himself every three hours. Sure enough, we’re still feeding every 3 hours at night!

Anders is still an ultra sleepy little preemie; he sleeps about 23 hours a day still. He sleeps through anything and everything still, so we are still able to just have him nap in the living room with us. We have found that if he’s not in his fleece swaddle, he doesn’t sleep as well. Body temp regulation was really tough for him in the NICU (plus we tend to keep it cooler in our home), so he definitely still benefits from the added help!

We all get lots and lots of snuggles in each day. The kids all take turns holding him, and any time I leave the room and come back, I find Anders in Ron’s arms. We are all just so smitten. This is one of my favorite stages and I’m trying to soak it all in as best as I can in such a hectic season of life. But already, I feel time slipping through my fingers like sand.
