My wife and I recently found out that we are going to have our first child. This is such an exciting time for both of us. Brooke has been obsessing over reading What to Expect When You're Expecting. She has already read like 150 pages in two days. As for me, I haven't yet gotten to that point of obsessively researching everything there is to know about the best stroller to get or why one crib is better than the other, though I'm sure I'll get there at some point.
With the news of a baby the realization that, in nine months, our lives will be completely different is all I can think about. Different for the better I would like to add! As I write Psalm 127 come's to mind specifically the verses 3-5, Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Two things stick out to me
- God is the one who decides to give a couple children and this is a blessing.
- The folly of working all the time and not trusting in the Lord should be obvious when one considers that much of what we enjoy does not come from working hard.
